Patek Philippe’s new president Thierry Stern talks to Goola Warden about his resolve to keep the watchmaker independent and the obstacles he will need to overcome

In August this year, Thierry Stern, a fourth-generation member of the Stern family, took charge of Geneva’s sole remaining independent watch brand, Patek Philippe, from his father Philippe.

Two months later, Thierry jetted into Singapore to open the brand’s first dedicated boutique in the Lion City.

In an interview with Options just hours before the official opening, he related the challenges he faced as the company’s new president.

“The challenge is to keep and maintain the same strategy,” he says simply. “Very often, in a listed company when there is a new person he may feel the need to change everything to prove he is capable.”
