    Charles Chamberland was a French microbiologist who is best known for his collaboration with Louis Pasteur.

    He was born in Chilly-le-Vignoble, Jura in France.

    In , Chamberland developed a filtration method and device now known as the "Chamberland filter" or the "Chamberland-Pasteur filter." This device, made of unglazed porcelain, had pores small enough to trap bacteria.
